The Playground Workout

The days of wishing you were a kid again are over. It’s time to take it back to the ultimate kid escape – the playground. But this time instead of sliding down the kiddy slide ten times, you will be taking a beating on the monkey bars. Okay, I know, not exactly the fun you were thinking of, but stick with me.

Warm weather only last a few months in Illinois, and when it does I like to take full advantage of it by taking my clients and my own workouts outdoors. The sun fuels me, plus I get the added benefits of soaking up some rays and taking in the fresh air while in the process.

I created this workout for some clients a year ago that I thought was great, because minimal time and equipment is needed for it. We found a nearby playground and got to work. Achieving a full body workout that can be done in 20, 30 or 40 minutes is perfect if you are strapped for time.

20 Monkeybar Pullups
200 Meter Run
20 Monkeybar Hanging Leg Raises
200 Meter Run
20 Elevated Pushups
200 Meter Run
20 Bulgarian Split Squats (10 per leg)
200 Meter Run

Complete as many rounds as you can of the above list in 20 minutes. Once you become more conditioned, increase the time to 30 or 40 minutes.
